A film based on a true, touching story of how faith and love can overcome a lifetime of pain and anger. Dan Donahue (Thom Matthews) has finally met the woman of his dreams. But on the night he is going to propose, he is overcome by deep-rooted anger caused by the father who abandoned him as a boy. Dan confronts his feelings of bitterness head on as he pours out his heart in a letter to his father. As Dan writes, we see his life unfold, feeling his pain and ultimate joy, as we watch him grow from young boy to troubled teen and finally into a strong, spiritual man. In the end it is Dan's father, played brilliantly by John Ashton (Beverly Hills Cop I, II & III) who must face his own failures as a father in a climactic one on one meeting with the son he left behind.

movie was very slow and no subtitles or captions to be able to read what is going on. do the makers of the dvds think we all can read lips. movie not worth buying.
Heartwarming and powerful Sep 10, 2009
This shows that you don't need special effects to make a film special. Following in the tradition of films like Fireproof, A Letter To Dad is shot on a lower budget but carries an impressive cast (John Ashton, Paul Gleason, Mario Van Peebles). It starts a little slow and may seem after the first ten minutes like this will be a series of extended music video segments. However, once Dan's father Mike starts reading his son's letter and begins reflecting on the past, the film soars and never drops.
This touches on an unfortunately common case in today's society. However, it needs to be seen and will be a blessing not only for broken families but for all. God has done some amazing works inspiring talented film makers in cinema in recent years, and this is another highly recommended entry. Don't miss it!
